Alzheimer's Association Offers Informative Fall Classes

Making our way through Fall in Texoma, the Alzheimer's Association will offer a series of informative and educational programs in all three counties. These classes are designed to insure interested parties are aware of the newest information available concerning Alzheimer's disease.


Maintain Your Brain is a one-hour workshop introduction to scientifically rooted advice on brain health based on Alzheimer's Association are designed for those providing care persons with dementia.

Maintain Your Brain workshops scheduled include:
- Bonham at The Woodmore from 2 to 3 pm on Wednesday October 8
- Sherman at The Behavioral Health Center from 6-7 pm on Thursday, October 23
- Muenster at the SNAP Center from 11am to Noon on Tuesday October 28
- Denison at Reba McEntire Rehabilitation from 11am to Noon on Saturday, November 8
- Gainesville at Stafford House from 11am to Noon on Tuesday, December 16

Partnering with Your Doctor is a special 90-minute workshop developed by the Alzheimer?s Association. A nationwide survey revealed that only 124 of 376 caregivers surveyed felt they were receiving all the information they wanted from their primary care physicians. Yet 440 of the 500 physicians who responded felt they were providing the necessary advice and recommendations. .The goal of this workshop is to help individuals and caregivers improve communication with physicians, and help those affected by Alzheimer's or their surrogates make informed decisions about care.
Partnering With Your Doctor trainings scheduled locally include:
- Bonham at The Woodmore from 2-3 pm on Wednesday November 12
- Denison at Reba McEntire Rehabilitation from 10?11 am on Tuesday, November 25 (caregiver support group following)

Caregiver Classes offered by the Alzheimer's Association are designed for those providing care persons with dementia. The six hour training covers physical care, dealing with problem behaviors, ways to communicate effectively, how to help insure the safety of a person with memory problems, and caring for the caregiver. Classes are from 9am to 3pm with lunch included. Classes are free for relatives of persons with dementia. Professional caregivers may attend for a $25 fee if space allows. Please call 1-800-272-3900 to pre-register.

Caregiver Classes scheduled locally :
- Denison at Reba McEntire Rehabilitation from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, October 25
- Gainesville at North Texas Medical Center at 9am to 3 pm on Thursday November 13
